PILIBHIT: UP chief secretary AlokRanjan on Friday announced big plans for Pilibhit, saying the district would be developed as an industrial hub and also as an important electricity generation centre by establishing hydro-electric projects. This is the first time that a chief secretary has visited Pilibhit. “Pilibhit has immense potential to play a key role in industrial development of the state and therefore, the state administration would prioritize these plans as well as explore additional possibilities of development,” Ranjan said while talking to reporters at a press conference at Gandhi Stadium in Pilibhit. The announcement was made after a programme organized by the district administration to distribute SP pension passbooks and cycles to labourers registered by the department of labour. The programme also included a workshop of Gram Pradhans on Swachchh Bharat campaign. Ranjan added that focus would be on the proposal of Haji Riaz Ahmad, the minister of state for Khadi and Village Industries, to exploit the water resources of Pilibhit for electricity generation. A team of experts of irrigation and electricity departments would be deputed to start working on this project on top priority.
A target has been fixed to facilitate urban areas of state with 22 hours’ electricity supply and villages with at least 16 hours’ by the end of 2016. The hydro-electric project of Pilibhit would be of great assistance in achieving this ambitious target, he added. Ranjan also said that he had been apprised by district magistrate Om Narayan Singh that the administration had succeeded in evicting intruders from 484 hectare agricultural land of Gram Punchayat in village Bhara Pachpeda under Pilibhit tehsil circle. This land was proposed to Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation to be developed as an industrial hub. The chief secretary said the move towards industrialization would not leave out farmers as focus would also be on agro-based industrial units in Pilibhit to help farmers achieve diversification in agriculture and to enhance their profits. He assured the district administration that the state administration would expedite efforts to make this proposal a real success. The chief secretary visited Pilibhit Tiger Reserve and appreciated its beauty and biodiversity. He said that Pilibhit could also be developed as an important tourist center and for this, promised best possible allocation of funds for the reconstruction of roads and to strengthen the requisite infrastructure. On a question of media persons over the appointment of the field director of PTR, he said that the posting would be done very soon with his headquarters only at Pilibhit and not in Bareilly. When asked about the practice of municipal corporation to dump the city’s garbage along the river banks in Pilibhit, Ranjan said he would strive to ensure that solid waste management system is set up soon. Prior to this, the chief secretary distributed Samajwadi pension to 1000 women beneficiaries and 1593 bicycles to poor labourers.
