PILIBHIT: Range officer Hasin Ahmad of the social forestry division in Pilibhit district said he saw pug marks of two tiger cubs within the site of a proposed sugar mill near Jamunia village, within the jurisdiction of Madhotanda police station. In June this year, over 1,000 sq km of the district was declared a tiger reserve. District forest officer Kailash Prakash and sub-divisional officer, forest, DP Singh also inspected the site. The officials could not trace the pug marks of any tigress nearby, and said the mother of the cubs may have been sheltering in the sugarcane fields. The officials said some village women had said they had seen a grown tiger in the fields.
