Minister asks CM to set up field director’s office in Pilibhit

Nov 9, 2014

PILIBHIT: Minister of state for khadi and village industries, HajiRiaz Ahmad, wrote to the chief minister suggesting that the office of the field director of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve should be set up in this district and not in Bareilly, as proposed by the state administration, as it would hinder functioning of the official as well as the department. The minister, who is a Samajwadi party MLA from Pilibhit, also demanded that the post of the deputy director (earlier divisional forest officer) should be filled by an official of the Indian Forest Services and not the provincial forest services, like has been going on for the past many years. He also asked the CM to accelerate the process of appointing a field director for the tiger reserve.

The minister emphasized that there is no logic in setting up the proposed office of the field director at B areilly as his entire work would be associated with the Pilibhit district. He said this would hinder the work of the field director, who is incharge of the tiger reserve. It would be difficult for the officer to make frequent visits to the reserve and effectively manage and control the field staff. The SP MLA He said that prompt decision making would be hampered in case of emergencies as the officer would have to journey from Bareilly which is 56 km from Pilibhit. He also demanded that an IFS officer be posted as the deputy director at PTR. He said that PFS officers do not have the level of competency needed to handle matters relating to such a large tiger reserve.
