PILIBHIT: With a gateman posted at the barrier to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve alleging that he was slapped and kicked by Union minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi on May 10, BJP district president Suresh Gangwar has shot off letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national president Amit Shah, drawing their attention to the incident. The gateman, Rooplal Verma, 57, had alleged that the incident took place when the minister halted at Garha forest barrier and lost her temper on seeing the residue of wheat crop being burnt in the adjacent field. Stating that the incident was against BJP’s ideology and was a blot on the party’s image, he said, “The common man can lose trust in the party’s ideology due to such incidents.” The gateman told TOI that he had approached Gangwar for assistance on Wednesday after the police refused to lodge an FIR against Maneka in response to his written complaint, filed by him at the Gajraule police station.
Gangwar said Verma had given him a written complaint against Maneka accusing her of slapping and hitting him.
Asked if he would demand disciplinary action against Maneka, Gangwar said, “This is the discretion of both the leaders. I just want to protect the party’s image and wipe out the stigma from the incident.” Meanwhile, Verma also raised the issue with chief minister Akhilesh Yadav through a Samajwadi party legislator. It is learnt that the CM assured him of a speedy action.
