LUCKNOW: UP cadre IPS officer Amitabh Thakur on Wednesday demanded immediate registration of FIR against union minister Maneka Gandhi on the complaint made at Gajraula police station, Pilibhit, by forest department employee Rooplal Verma posted as ‘outlet munshi’ at Gadaha check post in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. In this regard, Thakur, in his personal capacity, has written to superintendent of police, Pilibhit, principal secretary (home), and Director General of Police, UP. He said that he spoke to Rooplal who told him that on 10 May, Gandhi, who was passing through the post, when she stopped on seeing some burnt forest material and misbehaved with forest officials. “She (Maneka) later thrashed me (Rooplal),” Thakur claimed quoting Rooplal’s allegations. Thakur claimed that he also spoke to Deputy Ranger DP Singh and other forest officers who confirmed the incident. Then, Thakur said he called inspector Gajraula police station and SP Pilibhit, JK Shahi and both said that the written complaint has been accepted but FIR has not been lodged as matter is still being probed. Thakur said that as per the direction of the Supreme Court direction in Lalita Kumari case, it is mandatory for the police to lodge an FIR as the written complaint mentions cognizable offence under various sections of Indian Penal Code.
