PILIBHIT: State’s cabinet minister for forest Farid Maifuz Kidwai is likely to order the suspension of 15 officials and field employees of Pilbhit Tiger Reserve (PTR), including the divisional forest officer, after an adult tiger’s body was found floating in the feeder canal of Sharda river in social forestry division area in Pilibhit on April 23. The tiger was apparently poisoned by poachers. According to sources, three rounds of talks were held between MoS for khadi and village industries and a local legislature Riaz Ahmad and cabinet minister Farid Maifuz Kidwai to discuss the dwindling tiger population in PTR. Talking to TOI, Kidwai termed as “unfortunate” the fall in tiger numbers in the reserve. . He warned of stern action against the district forest officer (DFO) in Pilibhit Kailash Prakash who had had simply suspended one forester and one forest guard for the tiger’s death.He said the field staff members would “face departmental enquiry and subsequent action which might reflect in their suspension”.
Speaking to TOI, MOS Riaz Ahmad alleged a nexus between poachers and PTR officials.He said he had recommended the suspension of 15 officials and field staff members of PTR, including the DFO, after the STF had nabbed two poachers in Terai belt and seized a tiger pelt from them.
