22-yr-old drowns in Sharda Sagar reservoir

PILIBHIT: A 22-year-old man posted with the Army in Assam drowned in Sharda Sagar Dam in Pilibhit district on Sunday afternoon when he jumped into the reservoir despite warnings from forest staff and his family. The man had been touring Chuka tourist spot in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on Sunday along with his family, which had arrived from Barkharia town in Bareilly. According to family members, after pulling out Shakti Agrawal from the water, members claimed that they had noticed some flickering in the body and they immediately took him to Bareilly, hoping he would revive.

The sub divisional officer of PTR, DP Singh, confirmed that Agrawal had drowned. Locals said the body had been fished out of at around 2 PM on Sunday. SO, Madhotanda police station, Rajendra Singh said he had rushed to the spot but the family had already taken Agrawal to a private practitioner at Madhotanda as the doctor in the government hospital was absent. He said he learned from private doctor Rajiv Shankhdhar that Agrawal had shown some signs of life when he examined him.
